Critical Thinking is an exciting subject. I wrote this course to pass on my excitement and passion for the subject to as many people as possible. Unlike so much that claims to be useful for teachers and students, I have not only used real material, but also up-to-date evidence and examples (from many different subjects and contexts). There is no dull material like ‘It’s seven o’clock. I’m hungry. Therefore, it must be time for dinner’. Instead it ranges across material as wide-ranging as ice-cream in Finland, Dutch cyclists, the tattoos of Robbie Williams, and the asteroid called 99942 Apophis (on its way to a town near you).
The course uses a properly interactive approach, frequently inviting the student to make choices, with full responses given. Quite simply, it covers all of the skills of Critical Thinking in a way that makes it stand out as a unique learning tool.
I have been involved in Critical Thinking for over twenty years. I have considerable experience in assessing the subject and in teaching it at every level from Year 7 onwards. I was Chief Examiner in Critical Thinking for most of the years that the subject has been assessed in schools and colleges in Britain. I have worked with thousands of students and teachers over the years and continue to do so. This experience informs all of my work. My books on Critical Thinking and my CD-Rom have been widely praised for their student-friendly approach. This course is the same. I know that it will enable learners to find the same excitement and passion for Critical Thinking that I have (whilst throwing light on such matters as why football affects the birth rate and why swimming with dolphins might not be such a good idea after all).
